A student of the Department of Building, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Khalid Oyenuga, was the cynosure of all eyes at the Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2025, the largest construction event in Nigeria and one of Africa’s most prestigious construction exhibitions.
Khalid Oyenuga stunned the pool of industry players who converged at Landmark Centre, Lagos for the 3-day conference which was held from Tuesday, September 23 to Thursday, September 25, 2025.
With his presentation titled: Sustainable Materials – Innovations for the Nigerian Market, Oyenuga gave an account of UNILAG’s culture of confidence, brilliance and steeze before the over one hundred and forty five (145) top exhibitors from over twenty (20) countries who gathered for the Big 5 Construct Nigeria 2025.
The presentation, which formed part of events lined up for Day 2 of the conference, focused on:
- Assessing sustainability uptake in Nigeria’s construction sector and the role of existing regulations
- Innovative, eco-friendly construction methods and materials tailored to Nigeria’s climate and market needs
- Leveraging BIM, generative design, and automation to enhance low-carbon, high-performance building delivery
The session was well received by those in attendance, and it sparked conversations around practical pathways to embed sustainability in Nigeria’s construction industry.

The participation of Oyenuga, a student-member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Vice President of the National Association of Building Students (NAOBS), UNILAG, as one of the speakers at the event, further demonstrates UNILAG’s commitment towards grooming exceptional graduates who are not only fit for purpose but can also hold their grounds and deliver knowledgeably on both national and international stages.
